If you apply the same criteria, how would you respond to former famous atheist turned deist philosopher Anthony Flew who claimed “The evidence for the resurrection is better than for claimed miracles in any other religion. It’s outstandingly different in quality and quantity.”?
Do you think we can know anything historically about Emperor Tiberias? We only have 4 main sources on Emperor Tiberias- the most prominent man in the Roman world. Several of these sources were written much later than the Gospels, we have substantially fewer copies and the earliest manuscripts we have of any of them if the 9th century AD. Are you applying these historical standards to Tiberias?
The Gospels contain undesigned coincidences, incredibly precise details to places, people and things in we can substantiate from outside the Gospels.
Moreover, in applying historical criteria such as dissimilarity, embarassment and multiple attestation, even atheist historians can largely agree on certain facts within the Gospels without assuming they are reliable overall. Do dismiss everything a source says because a Christian wrote it is biased.
We have 42 sources on Jesus within 150 years of his death. We have around 15 sources on Jesus' death. Several of these are non Christian (are you aware of these sources?).
Moreover, the suffering of early Christians is also attested by Shepherd of Hermas, Melito of Sardis, Dionysius of Corinth, Hegesippus, Eusebius, Polycrates Bishop of Ephesus, Pliny, Josephus, Tacitus and so forth.
The creed in 1 Cor 15:3-8 refers to Jesus' death and even highly sceptical scholars accept this as dating to within 5 years of Jesus' death. Are you aware of these things? I encourage you to read my upcoming article on the resurrection. Feel free to write a critique or ask me questions. Keep on writing and all the best. It's good you are exploring these big topics.
